About Us
A binary star is a star system comprising two stars orbiting a common centre of mass. Binary Star Digital is a creative partnership comprising a designer named Mal Chadwick and a programmer named Tom Wright.* This page concentrates on the latter, but you can learn more about regular binary stars here.
Tom and Mal met in unusual circumstances at Sussex University in 2007, and after discovering a shared obsession with web design, went on to combine their complementary talents on a number of projects.
In spring 2008, they took a deep breath, and decided to make their collaboration formal. Thus, Binary Star Digital was born.

*Binary Star is also the name of a late-nineties hip-hop group, but the less said about that, the better.

| Background: | The Parsons research group needed an easy-to-maintain showcase for their groundbreaking research. They wanted the site to be engaging and memorable, so we combined traditional text information with streaming video and a smooth animated interface. We crafted a comprehensive visual identity that captured the dynamism of the group's research, including typography, graphics, and photography. |

Sussex MPT Degree Show

| Background: | The Media Practice and Theory Students at Sussex wanted to promote their final year exhibition and showcase their work to non-attendees. We reinterpreted an existing visual identity for the web, and built a feature-rich site to present the students' work in the best possible light. |

Scribesense

| Background: | Video transcription is the tedious process by which film production companies piece together their footage. It typically involves a VCR, a computer and a lot of patience. Scribesense takes the trauma out of transcription by providing an easy-to-use, web-accessible interface. |
